LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Health inspectors surprised almost two dozens Lubbock eateries this week to make sure they are keeping clean.

Only one made the Food for Thought list, but it was a low performer.

The Lantern Tavern at 3502 Slide had 10 violations.

  • An employee walked in from outside and started food prep without washing their hands. They were also on a cell phone. Another employee was on the phone in the kitchen.
  • The inspector notes that a cell phone policy must be provided.
  • Spray cleaners were stored over food items.
  • There were no sanitizer test strips available.
  • There were no paper towels in the women's restroom.
  • Bowls and spices were stored under dirty vent covers and vector control boxes.
  • An open box of gloves, towels and glassware were on the floor in the storage room.
  • The mop sink was heavily soiled.
  • The head of the mop was in the sink. It must be hung to dry. The floors and walls were dirty.
  • Storage racks and the ice machine were dirty.

The report shows most violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.
