Los Hermanos Familia, exclusively committed to advancing family engagement, is proud to announce that the Knights of Columbus (KOC) will be kicking off their annual Family Week Celebration from August 8-16, at the 8th Annual "Vamos a Pescar, Let's Go Fishing" event, which will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Buddy Holly Lake at Cesar Chavez Drive and North University.

Los Hermanos Familia uses fishing as a hook to bring families together and organizes the annual "Vamos a Pescar, Let's Go Fishing" event, which has an overall goal to reconnect kids and parents with nature, while strengthening family bonds.

"The Knights of Columbus councils are true brothers and have been a part of this fishing event since its inception, and we are so proud to be included in their festivities as they celebrate family," said Frank Garcia, Event Co-Chair adding that the objective of Los Hermanos Familia is Strengthening Families, Building Community.

Keeping that in mind, he said that fishing is a great event for busy families seeking an outlet to relax before back to school time.

"There's nothing quite like experiencing buying your first rod, or the thrill of catching your first fish, or getting your first fishing cap, which becomes a symbol of that day at the lake," said Garcia, whose father, the late Gonzalo Garcia Sr., a farmer, had made a last request to go fishing with the entire family during his recovery after a heart bypass. Sadly, he died the next morning, thus inspiring the event.

"Los Hermanos Familia uses fishing as a hook to bring families together and we look forward to sharing this celebration with the Knights of Columbus," he said adding that Knights of Columbus Councils who volunteer at the event include: KOC #8097 San Jose KOC # 11807 Our Lady of Guadalupe, KOC # 15876 St. Patrick's Church, KOC #16210 St. Phillip Benizi Idalou, KOC #12803 St. Elizabeth's, KOC #12292 Brownfield, and our newest council KOC #16394 of San Ramon!  In addition, the youth councils - St. Elizabeth's Squires Circle #5722, and St. Phillip Benizi Squires Circle are also volunteers of the annual fishing event.

As a reminder, pre-registration is now underway at www.letsgofishinglubbock.com. On-site registration will take place, Sat., August 8th, beginning at 6 a.m. For more info visit www.loshermanosfamilia.org.
