Information provided by Lubbock Independent School District
All families with children who will be four years old by September 1 are invited to a Prekindergarten Celebration this Thursday, August 11 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Alderson Elementary School, 219 Walnut Avenue.
Lubbock ISD staff will be available to assist parents who wish to register their child for Head Start and prekindergarten. Food, music and children’s activities will also be provided, along with a book giveaway.
Eligible children who are four years old on or before September 1 of the current school year may be enrolled in prekindergarten. Students may qualify for prekindergarten in three different ways: state-funded, Head Start or tuition-based. Head Start provides prekindergarten for low-income families as well as health, dental, mental health and family support services for school readiness.
Lubbock ISD’s prekindergarten instructional foundation is comprised of the Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines and the Early Learning Framework of Head Start and is aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) K-12. The curriculum focuses on oral language development, early literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, health and safety, social skills, technology and physical development.
