LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock ISD is hosting a pre-kindergarten celebration this Thursday at Alderson Elementary to encourage registration.

Staff will assist parents who wish to register their children for Head Start and Pre-K during the free event from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

There will be food, music, and activities for your little ones, plus a book giveaway.

LISD Director of Literacy Lisa Davis said, "As of today, LISD still has several spots available for pre-k registration. We are filling up fast. but the benefits of pre-k are so many. It's a great time for students to learn oral language development, those early literacy and numeracy skills, of course they learn socialization and of course getting ready for school."

Children must be four years old by September first to register for LISD's pre-k program.
