The Red Raider women's soccer team won it's first game of the 2016 season Friday night, edging the Lobos of New Mexico 2-1 at John Walker Soccer Complex.
Weather delayed the start of the game for nearly two hours.
Freshman Jordie Harr led the way for the Tech offense. She scored both Red Raider goals in the 59th and 65th minute, respectively, to give them a 2-0 lead.
New Mexico responded with a goal in he 70th minute, but could muster up another goal.
"We are going to work to play much better as the season goes on," said Tech head coach Tom Stone. "When you have so many new personalities on the field and they all need to find their way, you still have to win. We can say that we didn't play that great, but we still scored two goals and held on to a win, 2-1. We are extremely excited to be off and running at 1-0."
The No. 19-ranked Red Raiders play again on Sunday, Aug. 21, when they battle Missouri at 7 p.m. It's the second game of their seven-game home stand to start the season.
