RUIDOSO, NM (KCBD) -

The New Mexico State Police is currently investigating the shooting death of a Brownfield man in Ruidoso late Thursday night.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. According to Ruidoso PD, officers responded to a 911 call regarding an armed male suspect involved in a domestic violence dispute.

They were able to remove fifteen people from the residence.

Officers then encountered 29-year-old David Klassen in the home, who was armed with a .308 caliber rifle. After repeated commands by officers for Klassen to drop his rifle, shots were fired by at least one officer, striking Klassen.

He later died from injuries sustained.

Occupants in the residence recounted that Klassen was intoxicated and had become violent and began threatening some residents with the rifle.

The incident is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau and the investigation remains active.
