LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX (KCBD) -

Applications for the 2017 Leadership Lubbock class are now being accepted, and so are nominations for the 2016 Young Professional of Lubbock Twenty Under Forty awards.

Leadership Lubbock offers participants a monthly class focused on developing leadership skills to improve connections while providing participants with a thorough knowledge of the city and the community we all live in.

Planning is year-round and class days begin in January, culminating in an end-of-year banquet in December. 

Event days are designed to educate participants about main industries, introduce them to key business and community leaders as well as make the classes aware of the needs of the community.

Nominations are also being accepted for the 2016 YPL Twenty Under Forty. 

The nominated individuals should demonstrate leadership in their careers and actively participate in the community and Young Professionals of Lubbock. 

Winners will be determined by an independent panel of judges. 

The 2016 recipients will be honored at a banquet on November 10, 2016.

The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce also offers a unique opportunity for youth.

The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) teaches middle and high school students how to start and run their own business. 

Over the course of the program, students will learn how to brainstorm ideas, write a business plan, interact with business professionals, attend field trips for a behind-the-scenes look at local businesses, pitch their business plan to local investors for start-up funding and the opportunity to advance to regional and national competitions, legally register their businesses, participate in a local YEA! Trade Show, launch and run their own business or social movement and graduate from the program with lifelong leadership and business skills.
