LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

After going 1-9 last year, Lubbock High's Coach Jason Strunk is honest about it.

"Last year is a year all of us would like to forget, honestly. Every year our goal is to make the playoffs. We've done it once and I'm never going to lose sight of that. Every year we don't make it, it's time to come back and wipe the slate clean and I think we've done that so far."

The Westerners QB the last two seasons, Daedrion Morgan moves to RB and is expected to carry the ball 25 times a game. The defensive line is the best since Coach Strunk came to Lubbock High.

Non-District has games with Seminole, Andrews, Dumas, Estacado and Shallowater which should test the Westerners before they move into District 4-5A action with Coronado, Monterey, Lubbock Cooper, Lake View and Abilene Cooper.

"It's daunting. We have to make it through the meat grinder and see where we stand at the end."

The Westerners open the season Friday at Seminole.
