LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Friends of Legacy Play Village proposed some major changes on Tuesday, essentially considering a total rebuild of the park.

The current equipment is now 14 years old.

The proposal was made at a parks and recreation advisory board work session.

A complete rebuild requires approval by the parks board. Play Village officials hope work on the new playground could begin a year from now.

Friends of Legacy Play Village Board Member Mike Moss said, "In the rebuild, it would be 100 percent composite material. Fortunately / unfortunately, it is lot a more expensive than just treated wood, but it has a lot longer life and it really reduces maintenance and upkeep."

The park's land is leased from the city of Lubbock, but all upkeep is done by the community and the Friends of Legacy Play Village board.
