Lubbock police say alcohol may have been a factor in an overnight wreck that sent four people to the hospital and left one in critical condition. Police say the driver, Chad Kawata, swerved off the road and hit a light pole at 98th and Venton just after 2 o'clock this morning. There were 7 people in the Toyota 4-Runner.
The jaws-of-life had to be used to get some of them out of the SUV. Two passengers remain at University Medical Center this evening. Lindsey Pate is listed in critical condition and Christopher White is in satisfactory condition. Kawata suffered minor injuries. Charges may be filed, pending a blood test and the accident is under investigation.
