LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Do you actually go the speed limit on the South Loop?

On Thursday, Lubbock City Council will consider a speed limit increase along a portion of Loop 289.

Most of the loop currently has a 65 miles per hour speed limit, but a portion of the South Loop that runs from I-27 to 34th Street, has a posted speed of 60 miles per hour.

On Thursday, council members will consider increasing the speed limit, so when you drive around the loop- you won't have to change your speed.

This change comes as a recommendation from TxDOT, after they conducted a study within the city. The study shows that about 85 percent of drivers are traveling at about 65 to 70 miles per hour on the loop.

The proposed change was already passed by the Citizens Traffic Commission in June.
