The Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health was founded in 2007 to promote research specific to women’s health, to provide advanced education to health care professionals, and to enrich the lives of women and girls through community programs and cancer screening.

The institute has helped more than 25,000 women and girls through programs, resources, vaccines, and cancer screenings.

The institute, with the support of UMC, funds more than $100,000 in research grants relating to women's health through the School of Medicine each year.

For the past 8 years, the Laura Bush Institute has supported research that separates the clinical data between males and females to promote more personalized medicine.

The institute has created two programs focused on educating practicing clinicians and medical students about the distinct biological differences in men and women across many disease states.
