LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The Lubbock Police Department got a special 'thank you' from a local business on Friday.

The Back the Blue event honors the men and women who protect our city every day.

Carpet Tech brought out a truck and trailer to cook food, serve the police department and show their support.

Melinda Pharies, owner of Carpet Tech, says providing lunch was just a small token of their appreciation.

"Thank you for everything," she says. "The little things, the big things...it's unfortunate that something has to happen for us to realize what they do and how fortunate we are. But, this is just a way that we can say thank you."

She says she can't thank the officers enough.

Assistant Police Chief Jon Caspell says the department wants to thank Carpet Tech and the community for all of its support.

"Our officers are humble people. They don't do this job for the thank you's," he says. "They do this for the service, so it's a little bit out of our comfort zone, to be honest, for people to be telling us thank you. But, we're getting used to it and it's a nice feeling for the community to come together to tell our guys thank you."

He says he's very grateful for the Lubbock community.
