DENVER CITY, TX (KCBD) -

After 76 pigskin previews, the number of times high school coaches said exciting, tough and ready was 582.

Denver City's Steve Jacuinde was closest guessing 580. Steve wins a $750 dollar Visa Gift Card from Wellington State Bank and Hamburgers for a year from Fuddruckers. Steve came by the KCBD NewsChannel 11 Studios to pick up his prizes.

"I was excited I won it. I equaled out 8 from each coach and got the right amount.

Every coach said ready, exciting and tough at least twice each preview. In the past 2 years, 10-12 coaches failed so say any of the words, but this year they were 76 for 76. Tahoka's Brandon Hopper set a new high mark with 28 in his preview, breaking Denver City's Steve Taylor's record of 24. Three coaches only added 2 to the total. That was the lowest.

This year we added the word ready and only 1 coach didn't say exciting and tough. It was SpringLake-Earth's Israel DeLeon. However he said ready 6 times. Each day the number would grow and Steve was watching right up to the 76th and final preview when Frenship's Brad Davis added 12 to make the final number 582.

"I was watching every day and seeing how it was going. Friday was the last one and I saw it was 582. I got 580 so I should be around there, close by there."

While he doesn't add to the total, Steve was also dropping the 3 words when I spoke to him and presented him with his prizes.

"I was excited just got into it and started playing it. I knew it was going to be tough. I was ready to do it."

The Exciting Tough Talk Contest was brought to you by Wellington State Bank and Fuddruckers. I want to thank all of our High School Coaches for what they do for our kids.

I'm ready for football. It will be tough, but I'm excited to see if any of our area schools can win a State Championship.
