It has been a long and grueling 248-days since the last time we saw the Red Raider football team in action. But, the wait is finally over and game time is almost here. Here are the 3-keys to victory for Texas Tech to start the season 1-0.
Mahomes needs to light it up: Mahomes has more weapons than ever this year, so this should be the coming out party for his weapons. So I would look for Mahomes and the Red Raider offense to put up huge numbers against the FCS team that is predicted to finish fifth in the Southland Conference.
Don’t play down to your opponent: This key is pretty self-explanatory; Tech can’t play down to Stephen F. Austin. This game can make or break this season, so Tech has to go out and play their best football.
Defense has to set the tone: Last year when Texas Tech opened up the season against Sam Houston State, that game really set the tone for the defense for the rest of the year. The Tech defense gave up a total of 637-yards to the Bearkats in that game. So it is vital that the Tech defense brings it against Stephen F. Austin, and sets the tone for the rest of the year.
My Final Thoughts: Texas Tech is 2-0 all-time against the Lumberjacks, the last time they played Tech won 61-13. Now, I’d look for the final score to be similar this Saturday.
