LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Right now The City of Lubbock Health Department is encouraging residents to take precautions to avoid mosquito-borne diseases. According to the Department of Health, mosquitoes only need a few drops of water to hatch eggs.

KCBD NewsChannel 11 brainstormed some "mosquito breeding hot spots" where you should disrupt the water collection to help curb population growth around our homes.

  • Children's Toys in the backyard
  • Flower pots
  • Bird Feeders
  • Mats on the edge of your trampoline
  • Underneath grills
  • Tire Swings
  • Between creases of your grill cover
  • Dog Bowls
  • Playground equipment, particularly the bottom of slides

These are some of the perfect breeding grounds for the mosquitoes that may be hiding around your home.

With the large amounts of rainfall we've seen around our area vector control is taking care of the playa lakes the large bodies of water.

But who's taking care of the small collections of water that are building up around your home?

It's happening in your front yard and backyard. Disrupting the water and dumping out water collections are simple steps that'll help disrupt the mosquitoes and keep all of us a little bit happier.

Remember, there is a 'Mosquito Hotline' too. By reporting your street, Vector Control Crew says they will spray your neighborhood as soon as possible. The number is 775-3110.
