LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A teenager is dead after being hit by a car, near Erskine and North Chicago.

Two 17-year-old boys were jogging in the eastbound lanes, in the 5500 block of Erskine, just before 10 p.m. Tuesday.

That is when police say a silver car, also going eastbound, hit one of the boys, Ethan Saiz, from behind. EMS rushed Saiz to UMC where he was pronounced dead.

The other jogger was not hurt.

No word on any charges that the driver may face.

Premier High School Director Mark Martin issued this statement on Wednesday:

It is tragic when a young life ends abruptly. When someone as young as Ethan dies there is also the loss of what might have been for that individual.

Ethan was working on his high school credits in a program in which he was exercising an ownership of his school progress. By design this was teaching him valuable adult skills to take him into a career. He was looking forward to graduation next year and had career goals. He will be missed by many of his friends here at Premier High School.

One of his most outstanding attributes was a warm and engaging personality. He always had a smile and sought to make others enjoy his positive outlook on life. He always gave his best effort and respected others.

The students and staff of Premier High School extend their deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers to Ethan's family.
