LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The Lubbock Nitro are a basketball team comprised of athletes from LISD, Frenship and Lubbock Cooper.

As 5th graders this summer, they won the MAYB National Championship in Oklahoma City. Coach Marcus Limon says it was their goal to bring back the title.

"Last year we didn't win it all. For us to go out this year, to focus on one goal in mind, to win it all, it was a huge accomplishment. All of girls just felt a sense of relief. They were excited."

Elena Noyola says it was a total team effort.

"It was very exciting to be the #1 team in the nation. That's exciting and it was fun."

The Nitro also won the 6th grade division in the Rio Grande Shootout and last weekend as 6th graders, they won the 7th grade Premier Preseason Shootout. The Nitro have an incredible record of 72-5 this year.
