Levelland native, WBU senior named CSFL special teams player of the week

Wayland Baptist senior Preston Woodard was named Central States Football League Special Teams Players of the Week. 

The junior wide receiver from Levelland averaged 32 yards per kickoff return as the Pioneers took on Sul Ross State on Saturday afternoon in their home-opener. Woodard returned two kicks for a total of 64 yards with a long of 35. Both returns came in the fourth quarter, with one leading to a Pioneer touchdowns.

On offense, Woodard was credited with two catches for 33 yards, including a 3-yard touchdown for Wayland’s first score of the game.

Langston provided both the conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week as the Lions defeated Bethany (Kan.), 30-7.

Senior Kievon Jackson scored two rushing touchdowns and ran for 125 yards, averaging 5.9 yards per carry. He also caught three passes for 19 yards for a total of 142 yards of offense.

Langston senior linebacker Evan Scott not only returned an interception for a touchdown, but wrapped up eight solo tackles and an assisted stop for nine total tackles. Scott also recorded a sack for nine yards.
