WACO, Texas (September 14, 2016) - Lubbock Christian University outside hitter Emily Hanaway was named the Heartland Conference Volleyball Hitter of the Week for matches played from Sept. 5 - Sept. 11.

Hanaway helped guide LCU through a tough Texan Invitational in Stephenville over the weekend. Of LCU's 206 kills on the week (five matches), 68 came from Hanaway, who took over as the primary offensive threat after 2014 Heartland Freshman of the Year Channing Castleberry went down with a season-ending injury. The sophomore outside hitter from Leander produced 3.8 kills per set and had a .239 hitting percentage during the week. She posted a career-high 23 kills in a thrilling 3-2 loss to tournament host Tarleton State.

The honor is the first Heartland Conference weekly honor for Hanaway and the award is the first Hitter of the Week honor for a Lady Chap since Week 1 of the 2015 season (Maddie Johnson). LCU is 5-5 on the season and is off until their Heartland Conference opener on Sept. 22 against Arkansas Fort Smith.
