It's a very touching edition of Pay It Forward this week. We set up with our Pay It Forward sign on 34th Street west of Indiana Avenue.
Shalese Sanchez spotted our sign and was excited to be a part of Pay It Forward.
We asked Shalese who she wanted to help out.
Shalese knew exactly who she wanted to help out.
Shalese told us, "His name is Robert Earl and he's a really, really hard worker."
Shalese told us that he was a good person and that he goes out of his way to help others if he has the opportunity to do so.
Shalese added, "I would do it for him."
Shalese explained why she wanted to Pay It Forward.
Shalese said, "I just know that God put this in my path for a reason and that everybody needs help once in awhile and I'm really a strong believer about giving because one day I might need the help."
We made the drive to a local restaurant where Robert Earl works. We found him hard at work when we arrived.
We walked up to Robert Earl and Shalese explained what was going on.
She told him that she saw our Pay It Forward sign and thought of him.
She gave him $300.
Robert Earl was deeply touched.
Robert Earl replied, "I'm going to get my medication this morning. I've been in and out of the hospital. My medication has been five hundred and something dollars. Thank you so much."
Robert Earl explained that he had high blood pressure and went undiagnosed for two or three years. He had congestive heart failure which led to an enlarged heart and kidney problems.
Robert Earl said, "I just can't afford five hundred dollars every time I need this medication and this will come in handy."
Robert Earl concluded, "I feel great. I feel blessed."
