LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock Fire Rescue was called to a fire at Hunter's Way Apartments at 5550 56th Street on Thursday evening.

Engine 9 reported smoke showing from two blocks away. Crews arrived to find fire in the attic above two apartments and in the wall between two upstairs and two downstairs apartments.

Crews quickly extinguished the majority of the fire but continued to battle hotspots for the next hour. Four units suffered some structural damage from the fire and the entire building consisting of 16 apartments suffered some smoke damage.

Everyone was evacuated from the building and no injuries were reported, but approximately 32 residents will be displaced from their apartments.

Management from Hunters Way was working to find accommodations for all residents.

Preliminary findings determined that the cause of the fire was electrical in nature from the dryer outlet in one of the downstairs apartments.

The fire then spread Office Space between the apartments and it into the attic; however, the Fire Marshal's Office will continue to investigate further.

Crews continued to find embedded hotspots up to two hours after the initial call. As of 8:30 p.m. one engine and the two fire marshals remained on scene.
