LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A man who was shot as he was reportedly attempting to break into a vehicle is now recovering at the hospital.

Lubbock police responded to a report of shots fired and a civil disturbance at 2012 Main Street just after 7 p.m. Monday. When officers arrived, a 34-year-old male resident said he shot a suspect who was trying to break into his car.

The resident told police that an unknown suspect approached him as he pulled into his driveway. The suspect had attempted to open the victim’s car door and a short verbal and physical struggle ensued.

The victim managed to fight off the suspect and the suspect walked away. The victim called his wife and asked her to bring his handgun to him which she did.

While outside the apartment, the suspect returned and attacked the victim a second time. During the struggle, the suspect produced a knife and began swinging it at the victim. The victim pulled his gun and shot the suspect in the stomach. The victim dialed 911 a second time to report the shooting.

Jordan Mitchell Emerson, 22, was taken to UMC with serious injuries. He is now in stable.

Police are still investigating this shooting.
