LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX (KCBD) -

A driver has been critically injured in a Thursday afternoon crash involving a pickup and a semi tractor trailer on U.S. Hwy 62/82.

AeroCare was called to the scene near the J. Ferg Roofing building around 4:30 p.m.

55-year-old Lonnie Harrell Acosta of Lubbock remains in critical condition at UMC.

DPS says a semi tractor trailer headed west was attempting to turn left. As the semi crossed the eastbound lanes, a pickup traveling east struck the right rear of the trailer.

The semi continued into a private drive to try and get the trailer out of the way, but the pickup, along with some of the cargo from the trailer remained on the road, blocking eastbound lanes.

Acosta, the driver of the pickup, was taken to UMC. The driver of the semi was not injured.

The highway was reduced to one lane and traffic was diverted to county roads.

We'll continue to update this story as we learn more.
