Estacado Honors Fallen Soldier - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

Estacado High School will honor a former student and fallen solider this week.

Estacado is renaming its UMC "Most Deserving Student" scholarship the "Freddy Velez Memorial Scholarship." Freddy Velez graduated with honors from Estacado. He was killed by insurgents during combat in Fallujah last November.

Another memorial stands at Waters Elementary in honor of Freddy. The tree was planted last February, in memory of the soldier.

Freddy leaves behind his family, including a wife of three years.
