WASHINGTON, D.C. (KCBD) -

At the Marine Corp Memorial, Korean Era Marines E.G. Lambright and Norman Don Hunt lead the ceremonial wreath laying procession.

For E.G., seeing the memorial in honor of Iwo Jima brought back a memory from his time serving overseas.

“When the war was over in Korea, they sent us to Iwo Jima for some practice," said Lambright. "And we got to go where this was really raised. I saw the actual place…I couldn’t hardly hold the tears back. You know, it’s quite an honor.”

The veterans had the chance to visit the Navy Yard Grounds. And for our Navy veterans on the trip, this is something they’ve always dreamed of seeing.

“This is absolutely wonderful,” said WWII Navy Veteran Lee Pierce. “I just can’t explain it really. And I wouldn’t take a million dollars for it.”

It was the same sentiment at the Air Force Memorial.

“I wouldn’t take anything for it," said Pierce.

It's an amazing sight to see the three spires soaring up into the sky, especially for our Air Force pilots like Dick Moser.

“121 combat missions in Vietnam…Twenty years of Air Force experience, a lot of flying time over the years…It’s very moving indeed. All of these memorials, but especially this one, this is where my heart is," said Vietnam Air Force Veteran Dick Moser.
