Lubbock Soldier Surprises Mom With Visit

A Lubbock soldier is home just two days after he surprised his mother with a phone call from Iraq courtesy of NewsChannel 11.

Sgt. Joel Chavez returned to Lubbock Tuesday afternoon after spending six months in Iraq. Chavez surprised his mother on Mother's Day during a NewsChannel 11 story Sunday night.

Now he's home for 17 days. "I'm glad to be back in West Texas to see my family and to eat Mexican food!" said Chavez.

Chavez and his family will also take a brief trip to Las Vegas.
