Freddy Velez The memory of a fallen Lubbock soldier will live on through a scholarship at Estacado High School.
Freddy Velez, an Estacado graduate, was killed during combat in Fallujah last November. Tuesday, the school renamed it's University Medical Center "Most Deserving Student" Scholarship to the "Freddy Velez Memorial Scholarship."
The Velez family attended Tuesday's award ceremony to honor this year's recipients, Hector Ramon Junior and Kendra Sierra.
