LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

You may have noticed road work has caused traffic to back up on Loop 289 near University Ave. over the last few months. We spoke with the Texas Department of Transportation who says they're working to get that area cleared up.

According to TxDOT there is pavement damage where parts of the road buckled this summer. They say they blocked the road off for safety purposes because the pavement is jutting out towards traffic.

TxDOT is now working on getting a contract to do the repairs, but right now they don't know when the road will be fixed. The lane will remain closed until the repairs are complete.

In the meantime, please allow for more time to get to your destination if you're traveling in that area.
