Lubbock County's full-service vehicle registration and title office located inside City Bank at 8009 University Avenue in Lubbock will cease operations after business hours on Friday, October 28, 2016, according to Ronnie Keister, Lubbock County Tax Collector.

"City Bank has been a great partner and continues to be a great partner for Lubbock County with office space at its main location," Keister said. "The fact is our University sub-station operation has grown too large for both the bank and our staff to adequately handle. It's time to find another solution."

According to Keister, the staff from the closed office will move to Lubbock County's Main Office in downtown Lubbock until a another full-service sub-station is made operational.

Cory Newsom, City Bank's President and CEO, said the steady growth in households and businesses in the southcentral quadrant of Lubbock necessitated the change.

"When we opened that branch in 2005, the University and 82nd Street corridor wasn't as robust as it has become during the past three or four years as residential and commercial development has taken off. The University Branch is one of our busiest locations, and both our business and Lubbock County's business have outgrown the limited space."

Keister wants Lubbock County residents to know they have numerous options for conveniently and quickly renewing car and truck registrations.

"There are plenty of other locations to get renewals, many of which our citizens may not be aware of," he said. "In Lubbock, customers can go to any location of the United Supermarkets chain or Lowe's Marketplace. In Idalou there is 2Js Thriftway."

Those limited-services locations include:

2J'S THRIFTWAY, 902 Frontage Road, Idalou
LOWE'S MARKETPLACE, 5201 82nd Street, Lubbock
LOWE'S MARKETPLACE, 5725 19th Street, Lubbock
LOWE'S MARKETPLACE, 2706 26th Street, Lubbock
AMIGO'S, 112 N University, Lubbock
UNITED SUPERMARKET,     2630 Parkway Drive, Lubbock
UNITED SUPERMARKET, 1701 50th Street, Lubbock
UNITED SUPERMARKET, 2703 82nd Street, Lubbock
UNITED SUPERMARKET,     82nd & Frankford, Lubbock
MARKET STREET, 3405 50th Street, Lubbock
MARKET STREET, 4425 19th Street, Lubbock
UNITED SUPERMARKET, 401 Slide Road, Lubbock

Full-service county locations include the county's Main Office at 916 Main St., Suite 102; the City Bank Office at 5219 City Bank Parkway, Suite 105; and the Slaton Office at 1700 West Division in Slaton. Each of those offices is open from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Keister reminds renewal customers to have their renewal notice, inspection and insurance no matter what location they decide to visit.
