LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The Stockings Project is dedicated to making sure our service members have something to open come Christmas.

Volunteers will work to make more than 3,000 denim stockings that will be stuffed with goodies and mailed to U.S. overseas military bases.

The project begins in February with donated fabrics, which are taken to the LISD Vocational Transitional Center to be traced and cut out into stockings.

The stockings are distributed to many different individuals and groups for sewing and decorating.

Throughout the year, decks of cards, small toiletries, pens and pencils are collected to be stuffed into the stockings.

Candy is collected in November.

Christmas cards with handwritten messages of encouragement are placed in each stocking before they are packed and mailed.

On Saturday, November 19 at 9 a.m., volunteers will gather at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 33rd and Indiana to stuff, box and mail the 3,000 plus stockings.

All ages are welcome to come.

If you would like to donate items or get involved with making the stockings, contact the organization by calling 806-441-3558.
