BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -

Officials with the Emergency Operations Center in Bulloch County say Hurricane Matthew claimed two lives as it impacted the Coastal Empire.

The storm caused a significant amount of damage, mostly to trees and power lines. There are no numbers yet on how many homes were damaged, but of the two lives claimed, one was due to a tree on the home and the other due to a tree on a car as the victim was driving.

Crews held a meeting with power companies at 6 a.m. Saturday morning before heading out to clear roadways. Emergency officials ask that you be patient with power outages, as it may be some time before it is fully restored. They hope to have roadways cleared soon, but many are entangled in wires, which will require more time.

Please stay off the roads so crews can work more diligently.
