After a week-plus of uncertainty surrounding Patrick Mahomes' injured shoulder, the junior quarterback did indeed start against Kansas State
But Mahomes couldn’t lead Texas Tech to a victory in Manhattan.
The Red Raiders (3-2) fell to the Wildcats (3-2) 44-38.
A pick-six by Mahomes and a 99-yard kick return surrendered by Tech’s special teams proved to be costly.
The Red Raiders’ offense also came to a halt in the second half. Down 31-28 at halftime, they managed just 10 points in the second half.
Mahomes accounted for all four touchdowns on offense, throwing one and running for three.
Texas Tech outgained Kansas State 592-335 in total yards.
