LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

This week is Texas Tech University's Homecoming football game, and with so many graduates coming to Lubbock, that means getting to the game might be hectic.

But a portable business called West Texas Raider Rides behind Walmart at Marsha Sharp Freeway and Avenue Q offers a unique ride option.

Many times, fans who are going to the Jones AT&T Stadium have to park in that area and walk to the game, which is a little more than a mile.

That is why riders with this service offer to pull them in a cab hooked to their bike.

"I just ride up and down," Daniel Emre said. "You know, people and little children love to take a break, and so it's always a good time to see who's going to bite on it."

Brandon Hughes helped dream up West Texas Raider Rides in 2010.

"Me and a great friend of mine, we were with our wives in Red River, New Mexico, at another friend's wedding," he said, "and we took a ride on a four-person pedal car, and then according to our wives, we just had too long of a drive home to hatch a plan."

Since they had access to a metal shop, they felt confident they could build these cabs.

"It started off with one that we ordered from China," Hughes said. "It was a rickshaw, and we really modified and changed, and started with three cabs and then grew the company into seven cabs."

Thanks to their sponsor, Coors Light, their usual game day rides are on a tip-by-tip basis.

"We rely on the people that are here at the game to see how hard the guys are driving and how hard they're working," Hughes said.

Sometimes, these riders have to pull up to a max of 400 pounds.

"We have many drivers that come out here simply for the workout," Hughes said, "and it is a workout for sure."

That is what drew Chase Dillard to ride his bike for this service.

"I've done about 14-and-a-half miles so far today, and I started a little before 5," he said. "It's nice to interact with people and to get to talk to different people."

Those conversations are what keep his fellow rider, Margaret Santucci, pedaling.

"I've had a couple people who were going, 'I'm so sorry! I just had a cheeseburger before this! I know you're working hard. I'm so sorry!'," she said, "and I'm like, 'you don't need to apologize, okay? It's a service...it's okay.'"

That is an example of how Hughes and his employees work to make game days the best days.

"I had just dropped someone off and they said, 'Yeah, I forgot my purse!'," Santucci said, "So I gave them three rides today."

Hughes encourages his employees to be friendly and personable with all fans they meet.

"They're here for a great game, and they're here for this new experience," Hughes said. "Hopefully, a new experience on a pedicab."

These bike cabs drive around the east side of the stadium, mainly down Mac Davis Lane.
