Finally, the rabid puppy story reaches a final chapter. The City of Lubbock Animal Services says it has located the couple that dropped off that stray puppy two weeks ago.
Apparently, the couple was from Dickens County. They are trying to determine now if they need treatment after handling the puppy for two weeks before delivering it to the animal shelter for the Adopt-A-Thon. The puppy later tested positive for rabies and had to be euthanized.
Now, the final chapter continues with a search for the puppies mother and any litter mates that might have been exposed. The puppy was a 7 -8 week old female and black and grey in color with a long tail and medium length hair, probably an Australian Shepherd Mix similar to the one pictured right.
Again, if you have any information, contact the Lubbock Health Department at 775-2935. And remember, if you have a dog or cat, prevention is the key. You can get your pet a rabies vaccine that's good for either one year or three years.
