It was not the Homecoming Texas Tech and its fans were hoping for.
The Red Raiders (3-3) were overpowered 48-17 by West Virginia (5-0), snapping their nine-game streak of scoring at least 50 points at home.
The offense struggled to get in sync. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn't get the proper protection and was on the run most of the day.
West Virginia had 650 yards of offense Tech's 379. The high-powered Red Raider offense has now scored a combined 27 points in the last 6 quarters of play.
"Negtative in every way possible," said Mahomes. "I played the worst I've every played. They did bring it to us and we didn't respond."
Coach Kliff Kingsbury didn't hide his feeling about the team's performance either.
"Worst I've seen since being associated with Texas Tech," said Kingsbury. "Never seen a team play that poorly, coaches coach that poorly, and just get embarrassed. I have to apologize to the fans, student body, and alumni. That was as bad as it gets."
