Cannon Air Force Base In Danger of Closing

A major air force base in northeastern New Mexico may soon be closing.

Friday, the Pentagon recommended that more than 160 military bases close and Cannon Air Force Base is one of them. Annually, the base contributes about $98 million into the Curry County economy. The closure would mean the loss of more than 2,000 military jobs and nearly 400 civilian jobs.

The base has been home to the 27th Fighter Wing since 1958.
