Warm afternoon with another cold front expected Wednesday afternoon

The mid-week weather will bring a chilly morning followed by a nice afternoon.

Another sunny day for the south plains on Wednesday. Winds will be variable in direction until a strong cold front starts moving across the region in the morning and continues to move south during the day.

You'll know that the front has arrived when the winds switch to the north to northeast and increase in speed to 20-30 mph late in the afternoon and remain gusty into the evening.

There's a slim chance of some showers along the front, primarily in the southeast areas in late afternoon and evening. Otherwise, it will be another dry front, but will bring some chilly temps early Thursday and Friday mornings.

As for the temperatures, Wednesday's high will climb to around the 80 degree mark in Lubbock before the cold front arrives. Then behind the front northerly winds will drop the temp to the mid 40s by Thursday morning and the afternoon temp will remain in the mid 60s.

By Friday morning, 30s will arrive over portions of the south plains with possible frost in the northwest south plains by early in the day.
