With flu season in full swing, The United Family pharmacies are offering a variety of Influenza vaccine options to make sure everyone stays healthy this winter.

Many times flu shot myths keep people from being responsible and protecting themselves and their families, which is why it's important to educate yourself before falling for these tales.

MYTH: "The flu shot can give you the flu."

FACT: Flu shots are made with dead virus or the protein coating of the virus. The flu shot cannot come back to life any more than hamburger meat can turn into a cow.

Guests can find the following flu vaccine options at their local United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos pharmacy:

Fluzone Quadrivalent: Flu season is unpredictable and it is impossible to know which strain will make you sick. Fluzone Quadrivalent offers broad spectrum protection for four types of flu virus. This is recommended for age six months and older.

Fluzone High-Dose: As you age, your immune system weakens. Fluzone HD is especially formulated to offer better protection for those age 65 and older. Covered by Medicare.

Flublok: Are you allergic to eggs, preservatives or want high-dose protection? New technology now makes it possible for you to have protection from the flu. Indicated for people 18 years and older.

Influenza Virus Vaccine Afluria: Flu protection at a lower cost point and covers three strains of the flu virus. Suitable for age four and older.

United Supermarkets and Market Street guests will also receive 10% off their grocery purchase (up to $100) when getting the flu shot.  Additionally, MyRx members will receive $5 off vaccinations at any of the pharmacies.

Please let me know if you would like to speak with a United Family pharmacist in Lubbock about more flu shot myths and facts, as well as recommendations for choosing the right vaccine for you.
