LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The Lubbock City Council has passed a resolution supporting renaming of a portion of 1585 to Loop 88.

This is the name of the outer loop for Lubbock. The county and city of Wolfforth are expected to pass similar resolutions, then the highway commission will then designate this route a "state highway."

TXDoT District Engineer Steve Warren said that construction is expected to begin 2020. This is an expedited schedule.

Warren said he expects right-of-way acquisition will begin as early as spring of 2017. Right-of-way will cost the city of Lubbock and Lubbock County each an estimated $8.5 to $10 million.
