LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Texas Tech student Matraca Penner, also known as Mattie, is traveling to Maryland to compete in the 2016 Working Wounded Games this weekend.

It's been a goal for her since she started training at CrossFit Throne.

Penner was born with Holt-Oram Syndrome, which only happens to 1 in 100,000 children. Those children are born with upper limb abnormalities and a hole in their heart.

By the time Penner graduated high school, she had nine surgeries trying to correct her hands and feet, but CrossFit has given her a new outlook on life.

After graduation, she plans on getting her L1 to coach CrossFit, as well as her certification to coach adaptive athletes.

Week 3 of Texas Tech's football fall camp is underway and there are still questions on both sides of the football. The air raid attack is to be expected, but Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury likes what he's seen from the Red Raiders backfield so far.
