Lubbock City Council Against Toll Roads

A toll road may no longer be an option in funding the Marsha Sharp Freeway, if the Lubbock City Council has its way.

The Metropolitan Planning Commission met with County Commissioners and City Council members from Lubbock and Wolfforth Monday. The group did not make a decision, but Mayor Marc McDougal says a toll road is not an option for him.

"If the Marsha Sharp Freeway had been sold to the citizens as a toll road from the beginning, I don't think it would be an issue. But, it wasn't sold as a toll road, so we need to figure out what do we need to do to finish the project," said Mayor McDougal.

McDougal also believes the local funding option is the best way to save time and money. Your next chance to give your opinion is Tuesday, May 24th, at 7:00 p.m. It will be held at Crestview Elementary, located at 81st and Huron.

Funding Options to Complete Marsha Sharp Freeway Project
Construction on the Marsha Sharp Freeway is still ahead of schedule. But the current plan would mean the orange cones and speed zones don't disappear until the year 2022.
