The Red Raiders prepare to take on the Baylor Bears in their final regular season game of the year Friday.
Baylor comes into this matchup on a 4-game skid, and Tech comes in off of a terrible (66-10) outing against Iowa State. So here are my 3 keys to victory for Texas Tech to beat Baylor, and go into the offseason with some momentum.
Offensive line has to step up: This one is pretty simple, the offensive line just has to step up. Last week against Iowa State, the offensive line struggled severely against the Cyclones. Now the offensive line is the backbone of the offense, the offense thrives when the offensive line plays well. So if the offensive line plays well, it will open up the running game and give Mahomes more time in the pocket.
Force Turnovers: Texas Tech has struggled in this category all season, the defense needs to force turnovers against Baylor. And this could actually happen today, Baylor is starting true freshman quarterback Zach Smith. This game will be his second career start as the starting quarterback for the Bears. Last week against Kansas State, Smith threw for 258 yards (27 of 45) with 3 TD’s and 3 INTs. So he is capable of throwing interceptions, and if Tech wants to win the need to force turnovers.
Play with heart: Football is a game of athleticism and of heart, and today’s game the Red Raiders need to play with heart. The team needs to send the 12 seniors outright, and get the win so they have some kind of momentum heading into the offseason.
Final Thoughts: Texas Tech needs to put the disappointing (66-10) loss behind them, and focus on the task at hand - sending the seniors out right, and beating the Baylor Bears for the first time in five years. So if Texas Tech can do these three things, I’d look for them to get the win.
