Nevada man jailed in Lubbock, charged with homicide by vehicle

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

An Oklahoma woman is dead and a Nevada man is in the Lubbock County Detention Center after a stolen vehicle crashed in New Mexico during a police chase.

New Mexico State Police say Kyle Mawhorter of Las Vegas was booked after being released from a hospital here in Lubbock.

They say Mawhorter is accused of homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, aggravated fleeing from law enforcement, receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.

Police say the stolen vehicle he was driving was going 90 miles per hour during the chase on U.S. 70 outside of Clovis before crashing into a metal fence.

A female passenger was left behind before he was arrested.

Police say Kori Lynn Woods, of Norman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
