Suspect in custody, accused of stealing, wrecking pickup with a child inside

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

David Valdez, 23, is now in police custody, charged with aggravated assault after being accused of stealing a pickup with a 3-year-old child in the back seat.

Lubbock police tell us this stolen red pickup with a child inside crashed into the side of a house at 56th and Peoria on Wednesday night, Nov. 23.

The child was immediately taken to the hospital by EMS.

Family members tell us the father of the child jumped in the bed of the pickup as it was being stolen. The father was also injured and taken to the hospital.

The bond has been set at $150,000. This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges are possible.
