Only about 5% of the population are blood donors, that's why United Blood Services is hoping to change that - especially with a major travel holiday coming up.
They say an increase in trauma cases has exhausted much of their supply already. Right now, all blood types are low, but they are especially in need of O-negative blood. "O-negative is universal and hospitals use it in a trauma care situation even before they type a person so that's why its important to have a healthy supply of O negative blood," says Les Long with United Blood Services.
