UMC opened its new East wing on the 5th floor. That will allow for an additional 24 beds to cardiac patients. Specifically, this area will be designated for patients who are well enough to be out of intensive care, but not improved enough yet for the general floor.
"For patients that will allow family to be with them more and in a more general hospital environment and for us it will allow us to better manage intensive care beds and get patients in and out of those areas in a quicker fashion," said Greg Bruce, UMC Public Information.
A priest was there to bless the wing and the nurses who will work there. The new addition comes from bond money that UMC is expected to retire on June 1st, meaning it will be debt free at that point.
