They were loud and proud in Gail, Texas Tuesday morning as a pep rally was held for the Borden County Coyotes as they left for the Class 1A Division I Football State Championship today. 13-1 Borden County faces 14-0 Jonesboro 7pm Wednesday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
I was humbled and honored as head coach Trey Richey asked me to come speak to the team at the pep rally. It was a great event to showcase the love and support these young men have as they leave little Gail to play in a big time game in big Cowboys Stadium. Coach Richey found this morning’s event to be emotional.
“You know me, I’m a big ole crier. It was pretty amazing. I shed a few tears. Appreciate you coming and speaking. It means a lot to these kids. It means a lot to this community the coverage you guys give us. It’s only fitting this Senior group goes out the way they’re going. Gonna play a game at AT&T Stadium. God willing we’re gonna come out with a win.”
Borden County has won 3 State Championships in 1997, 2008 and 2009. They know how hard it is to win it all and Coach Richey says his guys are ready.
"What an opportunity for these kids. We’re getting ready to play a well-coached very physical very good football team that wants the same trophy, the same ring, the same medal that we want. We can’t lose focus. We have to stay focused on our goal and dream," said Coach Richey.
KCBD NewsChannel 11 Sports will be in Arlington Wednesday and have complete Coyote coverage.
We wish Trey Richey and the Borden County Coyotes good luck as they look to be the first football team in our viewing area to bring home a State Championship since Idalou did it in 2010.
