It's been described as one of the highest honors to be awarded in West Texas and Wednesday it was bestowed upon a U.S. Senator from Texas.
The Lubbock Area Foundation recognized Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison at its annual Hero's Luncheon. The selection was based on Senator Hutchisons' contributions to West Texas. The award establishes a permanent endowment at the Lubbock Area Foundation for a charitable purpose.
"I think the wide open spaces are something that you can't duplicate anywhere else. So, I have a lot to say about the future that I think we have in Lubbock," said Senator Hutchison.
Senator Hutchison has been named as a possible gubernatorial candidate. But Wednesday she said she wanted the legislative process to run its course before she made any announcement.
