Breedlove Foods hosted a discussion for the launch of their new summer program on Thursday.

The Texas Hunger Initiative's Double Up Bucks program will provide fresh produce from area farmers to families in need.

Breedlove hosted the discussion Thursday morning at their headquarters on MLK here in Lubbock.

Andy Black, Lubbock Director Of Texas Hunger Initiative said, "This is a program that provides extra incentive or extra value for low income individuals and families who receive what we typically call food stamps. It provides an incentive for them to use those food stamps at farmers markets or in places where they can buy fruits and vegetables that have been grown here in the area."

Those food stamps are double the value at farmer's markets and farmstands.

The double up food bucks program has been around for about a decade and is now in 20 states.
